New Natural Colors for beverages:

Stable Beta-carotene Without Rings!

You have been looking for it for a long time and we have come up with it! ACRC has successfully developed a beta-carotene emulsion which is perfect for beverage applications. The emulsion is readily water-dispersible, never forms rings or precipitates in beverages at any pH. In addition, it is very stable against light and heat. In our stability test, it kept bright yellow orange after 5 days outdoor direct sunlight exposure, while the control from a competitor faded completely during the exposure (Photo 1).

Emulsions of both mixed natural carotenes and synthetic beta-carotene are available. Spray-dried powders are also available. Call 888-308-9988 for details.

NEW!

Lutein Emulsion, A Stable Natural Yellow Color!

It is well know that lutein in an important nutrient to eyes. However, its application in foods and beverages is limited by its insolubility in water. We have successfully developed a lutein emulsion (code 1230-oalb) which is readily water-dispersible, never forms rings or precipitation in beverages. It is also very stable against light and heat (Photo 2). This emulsion makes it easy to add lutein as a nutritional supplement in beverages and other water-based foods.

With its attractive bright greenish yellow color (similar to that of turmeric or FD & C Yellow No.5), it is also used as a natural food colorant. Like our natural carotene emulsion, it combines advantages of both turmeric and yellow 5. The following table shows the comparison of yellow colors:

Stable Annatto for Beverages!

Generally, annatto is not suitable for coloring of acidic beverages because it fades and precipitates in acidic solutions (Photo 4). The good news is that ACRC has created a new annatto solution (code 1172-oalb) with proven excellent stability against acid, light and heat. The solution can color beverages with any pH without precipitation and its bright orange hue is well suited for beverages with orange, peach, carrot, mango, papaya, or other tropical flavors (Photo 3).

Stabilized water-dispersible Turmeric without polysorbates.

Curcumin, the coloring component of turmeric, is water-insoluble. Polysorbate 80 (Tween 80) and other polysorbates, which usually cause soapy taste in foods, are used to make curcumin water-dispersible in color industry.  However, polysorbates are not legally allowed for foods in some counties. In USA, the amount of polysorbates is not allowed to exceed a certain level in foods. In nutraceutical industry, polysorbates are rejected very often times by the consumers.

To solve this problem, we have developed a curcumin solution (1084-yalb) without polysorbates. It is readily water-dispersible and forms a stable solution.

Our 1084-yalb is also stabilized against light. In a model beverage, It took 4 hours to fade out under outdoor direct sunlight while the control (curcumin emulsified with polysorbate 80) faded completely within 15 minutes under same conditions (Photo 6). Our another stability test shows that it has lasted for one year, without significant fading, at room temperature, exposed to inside daylight, with curtains open.

Photo 6. ACRC 1084-yalb, polysorbate-free turmeric has superior stability to conventional turmeric with polysorbates. Right: A model beverage colored with ACRC 1084-yalb, exposed for 2 hrs under outdoor direct sunlight. Left: Same model beverage colored with conventional turmeric containing polysorbate 80, exposed to outdoor direct sunlight for 15 min. The turmeric color with polysorbate 80 faded completely. Both the beverages were hot filled at pH 2.3.

Natural Vitamin E Emulsion

Another break-through made by American Color Research Center, Inc. is its achievement of natural vitamin E emulsion with high concentration of D-alpha tocoherol or d-alpha tocopheryl acetate, up to 500 I.U./gram. It is readily cold-water-dispersible, forming a stable white cloudy suspension in beverages or other water solutions at any pH (Photo 8).  It can be easily added to beverages, foods and nutraceuticals as a nutritional supplement or a antioxidant, or both. Call us at 888-308-9988 for details.

Paprika Emulsion for beverages

Another breakthrough from ACRC! This paprika emulsion is readily water-dispersible. It is very stable to light, heat, does not form rings in beverages at any pH. Its attractive and unique red orange color (Photo 9) and its great stability make it very useful in beverage and other foods. Made with supercritical CO2, this emulsion has plain flavor and taste.

NEW!

Lycopene emulsion for beverages

Lycopene, as a strong antioxidant, is reported to prevent certain cancers. However, its oil-solubility eliminates it applications to limited number of foods.  ACRC has successfully developed a stable emulsion of lycopene for beverage applications. The lycopene in this emulsion has been stabilized against light, heat, oxygen, and ringing, giving a fresh-looking orange color  beverages.
